What is Adware Malware?

Adware (short for "advertising-supported software") is a type of malware designed to automatically display, download, or inject advertisements into a user's system. While some adware is relatively harmless and legally bundled with free software, malicious adware can track user activity, slow down systems, and expose users to further threats (Symantec, 2021).

Adware often infiltrates computers through freeware downloads, software bundling, and deceptive pop-ups that trick users into clicking malicious links. Unlike legitimate advertising software, harmful adware operates without consent, displaying intrusive ads and collecting personal data for financial gain.
